Course Overview
Labor Law and Compliance with the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters and Carpenter Contractor Trust
In this four-hour course, the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters will educate local contractors and members of the Metro D.C. Hispanic Contractors Association on wage theft, tax fraud, worker misclassification, and how to empower and train your subcontractors and business partners to follow the law.
Construction businesses, now more than ever, need to know the basics of providing fair treatment to employees by adhering to legal standards regarding working conditions, wages, hours, discrimination, and other aspects of employment.
This course will provide best-practices to contractors and provide the information your organization needs to protect the rights and well-being of both employees and employers. The illegal practice of worker misclassification allows contractors to pay less in taxes, which negatively impacts everyone else. Everyone is a victim when wage theft and worker misclassification occur, and it’s our collective responsibility to support businesses that comply with labor laws.
This extensive, deep-dive course will be taught by the Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Director of Industry & Labor Compliance, Ron Meischker.

We will cover:
-
· Subcontracting 101 (Independent Contractor vs. Employee)
