Big week for Metro DC's Hispanic Contractors. We held a splendid workshop Tuesday night at the Carlos Rosario School, perhaps the best workshop yet on how to succeed in construction in our 3 year history of presenting these events.
As you can see by the group photo, it was well attended and our President, Edwin Villegas, owner of the highly successful Winmar Construction, provided an inspirational (bi-lingual) presentation that afterwards stimulated a crowd around him asking for individual meetings w/him.
This was the debut event for the newly formed Latino Safety Professionals (LSP) organization and their President Jorge Otalora.
The incoming Board Chair of the Greater Washington Chamber of Commerce, Margarita Dilone, gave her special brand of advice and counsel and demonstrated why she is so highly prized a figure in our business community.
Bryan Short, lawyer w/Montgomery & Fazzone wrapped up the panel from a legal perspective. All in all a very successful event thanks in large part to Raul Medrano from the Rosario School.
On Wednesday morning of this week in another ceremony, we signed an historic agreement among 5 organizations Rosario School - Hispanic Contractors -Turner Construction - LSP and the Dept. of Small and Minority Businesses (DSLBD), to provide instruction and events together in an initiative titled: "Construye-DC: Latinos Thriving in Construction" Our own Ana Harvey, Director of DSLBD was present at the launch along w/Kevin Sharkey and the great Carolyn Ellison from Turner Const. who will sponsor a 4 part pilot program at the Rosario School in September. Our next event will be a bi-lingual OSHA 10 training which begins July 24th. Space is limited and there is a cost.
