Invitation to follow up, 3/16/18 @ Convention Center, 3 pm

On Friday, March 16th as part of the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Expo we will celebrate an invitation-only session with a total of 24-36 bonafide small businesses in the local construction industry. These companies will be vetted to make sure we are including the highest possible quality of local contractors focused on doing business in the commercial construction contracting sector.

The session will last from 3-5:15 pm in the second floor meeting room at the Convention Center.

It will consist of 3 panels:

  1. Construction Project Owners,
  2. Large General Contractors &
  3. Sub-Contractors & Workforce Development Programs.

Each panel will cover roughly the same topics discussed at the February breakfast, hopefully with new insights gathered from that meeting. Perhaps we can provide suggestions of new solutions or ideas for improvements in the hiring of local small businesses in the industry, better training linked to entry level opportunities for local employees and recommendations of programs or initiatives in the training field that can add to what there is now.

The 4-6 members of each panel will speak briefly followed by a Q&A. We hope there will be time to mingle and network at the end of the session and thereby these small sub-contractors can match up with other larger contractors and the rest of those present.

The makeup of the panels is pretty much set, although there is room for additions or variations. As it stands now the panel of 'owners' currently invited are:

  1. DGS/DSLBD from DC government
  2. Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority
  3. PEPCO
  4. Union Pension Funds (Represented by CHOICE)

The General Contractors panel of currently invited companies are:

  1. Clark Construction
  2. Fort Myer Construction
  3. Gilbane Construction
  4. Grunley Construction
  5. Turner Construction
  6. Whiting Turner

The Sub-Contractors/Workforce Development panel consists at this time of:

  1. CHOICE, Building Trades Union
  2. JAP Construction
  3. Keystone Plus Construction
  4. LED Partners
  5. Training Grounds
  6. Rosario School
