Metro DC Hispanic Contractors Association:
Corporate Advisory Council
The Hispanic Contractors Association has grown exponentially over the past 5 years. We've now reached the threshold of 100 members. In 2017 we raised more than $100,000 for the first time ever. We've begun a training program for small construction firms in construction management and worksite safety. We're making plans for our first ever workforce development training program and we have various large, long term commitments in the works.
We now propose the creation of a Corporate Advisory Council to broaden and deepen our commitment to 3 overriding issues:
- Building for the future. The Hispanic Contractors Association is in need of creating an advisory board populated by large builders and corporate leaders in the construction industry to provide guidance, strategies and suggestions on how to respond to future conditions and how best to protect, defend and promote our businesses.
- Diversity. How can MDCHCA best promote diversity in the construction industry. How can we preserve and improve upon the District's CBE program and in general promote policies that will be more inclusive, encourage a more diverse workplace and provide greater opportunity for our businesses.
- Fundraising & Sponsorships. We'll be celebrating our 5th annual Diversity in Construction event in October of this year. Each year this event has been a unique, exciting experience, growing by 20-40% per annum. In 2018 we'd like our Advisory Board to take on a leading role in planning for the event that highlights
our efforts to show how important and essential diversity is in the industry and the talents and strengths of minority, immigrant and Hispanic owned construction companies in the region. We have some thoughts, but would like to share it with our best friends!
The Corporate Advisory Council to the Metro DC Hispanic Contractor's Association will be composed of our most distinguished corporate members. We'll present our Advisory Council to the general membership and encourage exchanges between our membership and the corporations. The Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) will meet on no more than 4 occasions yearly. Notes from each meeting will be distributed to the Board of Directors as well as the membership.
Whereas the Advisory Board will have no fiduciary or statutory responsibilities, the advice of the CAC will carry 'great weight' with the organization. Members of the Board of Directors Executive Committee (Chair, President, VP or Treasurer) will join Advisory Board meetings as necessary and meetings will be as swift, enjoyable and entertaining so as to make these gatherings as pleasant and promising as possible.
If you are receiving this proposal, we consider your firm an important part of our CAC and invite your company to join us in this endeavor. We will be contacting you again shortly to begin further discussion of what we envision.
