GENERAL SCOPE SUMMARY:
The rehabilitate of the Rockville Station Pedestrian Bridge includes but is not limited to concrete delamination and spall repairs, concrete deck expansion crack repairs; deck compression joint repair and replacement; repairs to underside of the walkway metal decking; concrete deck integrity verification and repairs as needed; bridge anchor nut repair and replacement; replacement of scratched and damaged glass wall panels; clean all glass wall panels and stainless steel hand rails; Skylight cleaning, seal replacement, and bronze cap replacement. Delaminated and damage repair/repainting of internal and external bridge structures including trusses, metal decking, ceiling panels and architectural members. Roof exhaust fan demo and replacement; Bird deterrent installation; Roof drain cleaning, and application of non-skid protective coating on the concrete bridge deck.

On Wednesday, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) announced a new strategy for enhancing equity and making DC’s prosperity more inclusive: an equity inclusion prioritization in forthcoming Request for Proposals (RFP) that will increase access to development opportunities for entities or organizations that are owned or majority controlled by individuals determined to be part of a socially disadvantaged population.
This week, the first RFP including this equity inclusion priority was released by DMPED, seeking to redevelop 30,000 SF Langston and Slater Schools, at 33-45 P Street NW (square 0615 lot 0827).
To facilitate equitable access to District development projects, DMPED will begin incorporating a prioritization in their RFPs for teams that maximize, by percentage of ownership and control, entities designated as Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) and Residence Owned Business (ROB), or any entities (including non-profits and community institutions) led by, or majority controlled by, individuals designated as socially disadvantaged under the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) definition.
The site is in Ward 5, zoned RF-1, and bounded by Bates Street, NW to the North, North Capitol St, NW to the East, P Street, NW to the South and 1st Street, NW to the West. Mundo Verde Public Charter School is across the street and Paul Lawrence Dunbar Senior High School and Friendship-Armstrong Public Charter School are in close proximity.
This property was formerly two elementary schools – Slater Elementary School and John Mercer Langston Elementary School. Slater Elementary School was constructed in 1891 as a school for African American students; the school was part of a complex of schools for Black students along First Street, NW between L and P Streets. The John Mercer Langston Elementary School was built in 1902 to handle the overflow of students from the adjoining Slater School.
